Veterans' Day Poem

V is for Vietnam, a war in which some fought.
E is for the total energy that they gave.
T is for tears their families shed at parting.
E is for Europe, our staunch ally in battle.
R is for rest taken upon some foreign soil.
A is for America they fought to defend.
N is for national heroes--always.
Put them all together and they spell veteran.
Heroes and heroines in every language.

9/11 Prayer Poem

Prayer for 9/11

Dear Lord,

You are our Friend,
Our Savior, our God.
You formed us from dust,
From Eden's sod.
You want peace,
But You gave us free will.
In prophesy You say
That we will fight still.
Our nation was strong,
Proud land of the free.
We thought we would never
Destruction here see,
But on September eleventh,
In the year 2 Thousand& 1,
Many souls went to Heaven,
Their final victory won.
President Bush said
That the fight would go on
'Til all nations were like us,
So free and so strong.
Some people, though, say
That never can be;
Even the Bible says
Not all will be free.
Myself, I'm just a simple girl,
Politics is not my forte.
I know one thing, however,
Avout which I can pray.
For those who died in the bombings,
On that day in Oh One,
And since then in battle,
Lead them all to Your Son!
And for their families left here
I pray especially now;
Send Your Comforter to them.
Oh! Bless them somehow!
Children who lost parent,
Spouse who lost spouse,
Yes, the tears may flow,
But bring peace to each house!
And for we who lost no one,
I also pray,
May we remember to count
Our blessings each day.
In Jesus' name,
Amen.
